A thin and small region of the Mid Rim, the Borderlands are almost entirely contained within the Imperial DMZ, a space which the Galactic Empire and League of Free Planets established nearly five years ago to relieve tension at their borders. With little in the way of government or law, many individuals fleeing either the Empire or League call the Borderlands home, and others still have capitalized on the amnesty the DMZ has granted them to run less-than-legal operations that attract customers from outside the region.
