Hello, and welcome to the Character Application section! Here you can submit an application for a new character to play in the game. The application process exists to help your character and their backstory match the setting and tone of the world, and to stand as a reference/introduction to your character for others who may be writing scenes with you. The GMs will work with you to workshop your character as needed. Always feel free to reach out for help.
Please read our Introduction and Rules and the Game Setting before beginning an application. You may also want to check out the Protected Plot Items thread, which details what important topics other player's stories cover, and who you should talk to as a curator of that lore. You may also want to have a discussion with the GMs or community before beginning your app. Please be patient while the GMs review your character, as we have a lot to cross reference. Once the application is approved, you can start playing as that character in the game. GMs will respond in the application thread to help you workshop your character. Please do not submit unfinished applications - only post an application when you feel like you have finished the template fully. If you would like to have a discussion about your character before posting, please do so with the community on Discord.
It is recommended that you create a new forum account for each of your characters, so it is easy to tell what character your story posts are about, and make tracking your character's story even easier for others. For each of these accounts, please make your profile image a picture of your character. I can also edit the name of any existing account if needed. If you do not create a separate account for each of your characters, please come up with a way to specify who's story you are writing in your game posts, such as a coloring your text a specific color and writing the character name as a header, and outlining what that will be in the Other section of your app. You may have up to 3 characters at a time.
Remember the purpose of this RPG is creating a shared narrative. You are allowed to make a character who's story is completely isolated from other PCs, where your actions only affect them indirectly, or even make characters on the opposite side of ideals and factions from other PCs; but we also encourage you create at least one character who can get directly involved in another PC's narrative in a positive way from time to time, to inspire collaboration and group storytelling. Please reach out to other members of the community on Discord while creating your character if you wish to integrate your new character with one of their ongoing stories.
Below is the character template. Please fill out each section, and then post a new thread here inApplications with the character name as the title of the thread. If you feel it is important that any of these sections are not shared with the community with your application you may list them as REDACTED and direct message a GM with the information, but we encourage you to be as open as possible as it assists with the collaborative writing process. If we feel the redaction is unnecessary, we might ask you to include these details anyways.
If you want to, you may play as established characters in the era. Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, etc., are all out there in our universe. However, we recommend that you create an original character. This is typically a more fulfilling and creative process, and provides much more flexibility in the narrative of your character. Also, by keeping famous characters as NPCs, all players have the opportunity to interact with such legends as they see fit. Still, if you decide to go this path, submit a character application as normal, just expect it to undergo much more scrutiny.
Remember - your application is a window into who your character was before they entered the story, to best get you set up for joining the game. You do not need to keep your application up to date with information with new information from events of the story after it has been approved.
Image: (A picture of what your character more or less looks like. It is okay if you cannot find one but putting a face to a character always helps)
Player: (What you, the Player go by).
Character Name: (What your PC will be named)
Species: (What race of alien are you. If you are a droid, please provide make and model)
Age: (Does not have to be a specific number)
Gender/Pronouns: (What gender the character is and/or what pronouns they use)
Homeworld: (Where the character is originally from)
Desired Faction Affiliation: (What faction, if any, you envision the character working with or for at the start of their journey. May be none.)
Desired Occupation: (What you envision the character does for a living. Feel free to include a rank if applicable)
Force Sensitivity: (If your character has a developed connection with the force, describe it, and any affiliation they have with schools of training, for example Jedi, Sith, etc.; if you would like your character to develop force powers later or over the course of their story, put "Latent"; and simply write "None" if your character has no connection.)
Biography: (The character's backstory leading up to the present day. Be concise as possible, but this section may be as long as you feel is necessary to introduce the character and describe their place in the universe.)
Personality: (A brief description of the character's general demeanor and traits)
Important Assets: (Any items, finances, assets or boons, etc. your character has worth mentioning. You do not have to list basic things like clothes, rudimentary supplies, simple weapons, etc. - though you are more than welcome to describe them if you so chose. What should go here are things vital to who your character is, that make them who they are, are a part of how they do what they do, or other material things that would make them stand out. Examples might be a lightsaber, a mysterious family heirloom, a personal starship, or a corporation your character runs. Consider your assets from the perspective of other characters, too; things that might serve as good plot hooks for others to interact with you even if they're not as big a deal to your PC. Feel free to include less tangible items, like an outstanding warrant with Imperial authorities, or a debt to the Hutts.)
Other: (Anything related to your character not covered above that you want to share, or you feel is important to bring to the GM's attention? This is the spot for it. Please include or reiterate any changes to canon your character and their backstory would introduce, directly or indirectly. Also, does your account need modification, or does your character need Reporter access? It goes here. Nothing relevant to add? Leave this category blank.)
Once your application is approved, you will be given permissions to access theGame Room and may begin your writing. See our Posting Etiquette Guide before you get started for best practices.
You may make edits to an application after it has been approved, but please also post a reply to the thread describing what you've changed so it can be re-reviewed. Please avoid making major retcons without consulting a GM.
