Biography:
Corellia and the Star Hawk
Young Lonros Shern always had a fascination with space travel and exploration. He would often look up at the Corellian sky with the desire to one day reach the stars, to explore their planets, to see peoples of many different backgrounds, races and cultures. Anser Shern, Lonros's father, worked in the Corellian Engineering Coorporation as a starship designer. Long tired of the corrupt government, Anser desired to get his son off the planet in hopes of him reaching a better future. The chance came when a well-known and well-respected ship Captain Sheera Galek of the Trade Defense Force owed Anser a favor for refitting her Star Hawk. She took the 13-year-old Lonros as a deckhand, yet his natural affinity for spacefaring earned apprenticeship as a pilot for one of the Munifex-class cruiser's complimentary Delta-6 starfighters within months.
Mutiny
As Sheera fended off a multitude of pirate attacks through the years, Lonros became one of her best pilots, displaying an aptitude for commanding the other Delta-6 pilots and saving an otherwise-doomed convoy time and time again. As the TDF's reputation took a turn for the worse during the ruthless aspirations of the Trade Federation leading up to the Invasion of Naboo, Lonros had become disillusioned with his employers as Sheera's missions in the Outer Rim became more extreme. This led to a rift between him and Sheera, and when ordered to relocate to Naboo to assist in the Trade Federation's blockade, a breaking point was reached. Lonros and the more Republic-oriented crew stood up against Sheera and her loyalists, and a mutiny broke out aboard the Star Hawk that ended upon Shern executing his captain and mentor.
Republic Accident
Upon the beginning of the Clone Wars, Lonros and his old shipmates joined the Republic's Navy with the refitted Star Hawk, with Shern as its Captain. He proved himself an excellent starship commander through several battles, earning himself the rank of Commander over an entire Republic Division in a single year. Lonros's reputation as a rising star amongst the Navy rose until one fateful mission. While guarding a convoy with neutral presentation and a small outfit to avoid suspicion, Shern was ambushed by a Confederate fleet, as though they had known their exact purpose. The ensuing battle between the Star Hawk and the CIS was horrifically one-sided, the Commander outnumbered nearly five to one. Shern was captured, his ship and crew lost in the ensuing slaughter, and he was held by CIS forces for nearly two months. He endured torture for as long as he could, sacrificing his arm and dignity before eventually caving and giving away various information about Republic supply routes and convoy expectations. In an act of cruelty, Shern's captors informed him how the convoy's ambush had been arranged by a traitorous Senator. Armless, broken and hopeless, Lonros could only await his execution, when, in a stroke of ironic luck, his transport ship was assailed by pirates. Shern utilized the resulting chaos to commandeer a pirate's ship and escape towards Coruscant to inform the Republic of what he had learned.
Changed Perspective
The investigation into which senator had turned traitor would take some time, and due to his injuries Shern was granted shore leave to visit his father on Corellia. Upon his arrival Lonros was met with the news that Anser Shern had been killed months prior by a bandit group raiding the shipyards he worked in. A small consolation ceremony took place on the Republic's budget, and Shern was left alone to slowly recover from his disfigurement. Months passed, and he was informed a Senator had been assassinated by Separatists, likely the traitor, and nothing was learned. Not only that, multiple supply convoys had been ambushed, all on routes Shern relented under torture. The harrowing despair Lonros felt was all that would keep him company, though it was soon partnered with severe resentment towards the Republic's corruption and negligence. Corruption that allowed the Seperatists information to stage Shern's undoing and subsequent torture as well as to eliminate their Senator contact, and negligence that let Corellia fall into its sorry state despite the planet's historic connection with the High Republic's success. Shern's resentment would fester for the last year of the Clone Wars, yet it gave way to resolute hope when Chancellor Palpatine declared the New Order that would seek to eliminate such corruption from the galaxy. Lonros was more than pleased to embrace a new, decisive empire, and upon his recovery proved himself an excellent ship commander in many of the following subjugation skirmishes. Shern was on the fast track to becoming an admiral of the Imperial Fleet, though instead of glory his only desire was to bring absolute order to the galaxy he once aspired to explore.
Personality: Self-assured, cold, cautious. Doesn't crack jokes.
Important Assets: The Magistrate Squadron of the Empire's 5th Fleet, 17 starships. Cybernetic arm concealing an incorporated shock baton and secondary blaster. Imperial Navy Officer's Uniform, Senior Commodore.
Other:
"My father was honest and loyal. He believed in the Republic, that Corellia would one day be cleansed of the political greed and filth, and order be properly restored. That our world and its people held at least that much significance. He was gunned down by Grindalid bandits. He didn't have his hope, his loyalty, his honesty answered. They were dashed onto the Santhe Shipyard floor along with his freshly blasted corpse.
Too long has this galaxy been wrought with vermin feeding off the corruption of corpulent politicians. Too long have criminal syndicates scurried and butchered beneath the watch of an apathetic government. A strong Imperial presence will deny these parasites oxygen, and finally will they suffocate and fertilize a future of peace and prosperity. No longer will any system be left by the wayside, to fester with rot. Nothing but a pure and just Empire."
- Lonros Shern in a speech to the Magistrate Squadron, during Shern's promotion ceremony to Commodore.
