Biography:
Born in the waning years of the Republic on Jyvus Space City, one of the massive orbital facilities around the Duros homeworld “Duro”, Grae Ho’naur came from a family of shipwrights, an amicable albeit ignoble occupation for one of his people. It was also a line of work that failed to capture the imagination of the adventurous young Grae, who like many of his kind yearned to attend the venerable Duro Academy of Deep Space Exploration and travel the stars. However, as his ailing father needed more and more help in the family yard, Grae, a responsible young man, sought to find a compromise, and joined the local Duro Planetary Defense Force (DPDF), where he could live a lifestyle more to his own tastes, but never be too far from his family and the shipyards on Jyvus.
When war came to the galaxy, the Duros people strove to remain brave in face of the threat and honor their longstanding relationship with the Republic, and spearheaded the flood of new shipbuilding contracts from the Republic to retrofit their aging peacetime vessels into wartime machines.
It was not long before the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) responded. The Separatists mounted one of the first and largest surprise attacks of the War into the Core Worlds, a feat thought impossible by the Republic at the time, and aimed all their might directly at the Duros Shipyards. Grae was on patrol on the edge of Duros space when it happened. By the time his vessel arrived on scene, the Confederates were in full retreat, what remained of the DPDF beating them back – but the CIS had already succeeded. The Duros shipyards, Jyvus City, and his family were gone.
The Republic, seeing the weaknesses in the disjointed and separate local Planetary Defense forces of the Core Republic worlds, called upon these fleets to reorganize under the banner of the Republic Auxiliary, where they could coordinate planetary defense together, and provide support to the primary Republic Navy.
Grae was among many Duros who championed the DPDF accepting the terms of this new agreement, and soon found himself reassigned to the Prudence, a Republic Pelta-Class Frigate, as a Lieutenant under the banner of the Auxiliary Fleet. The members of the DPDF who joined the Auxiliary would serve with distinction, and by the end of the war, Grae had been promoted to Captain, and was in charge of his own vessel, a c90 Challenger Corvette, a late war retrofit of an aging Consular-Class Corvette of the old Republic peacetime forces, the exact kind that would have been retrofitted on his home had it not been destroyed. He named the ship Spirit of Jyvus.
The war’s end would ultimately mark the end of the Republic as well, with the Senate ratifying Chancellor Palpatine’s Declaration of a New Order, transforming itself into the Galactic Empire. Despite the Confederacy's defeat, Grae’s job wasn’t done. The Captain and his Spirit of Jyvus now found themselves under the banner of the new Imperial Auxiliary Force, and along with an entire Sector Group of the Imperial Navy, would deploy to the Western Reaches, a slim swath of the Mid Rim to conduct pacification operations, quelling the remaining Separatist holdouts who refused to let the War end and were continuously launching raids on Imperial space.
After years of combat, and the end of the extremist holdouts is in sight, and the soon to be victorious Imperial Navy is already preparing to return its fleets to the Mid Rim. With his long held enemy finally fading, Grae tries to distract himself from the question he has been avoiding since the Declaration: what home is he returning to?
Personality:
A loyal, honest, and charismatic Duros, Grae is notable for his wit but also his surprising urbane manner. Like many Duros he has excellent recall, and is known to be very knowledgeable in tactics and logistics, but also ship design, be it military or civilian, and when on shore leave can often be spotted quietly collecting or assembling models of his favorite vessels. While Grae is considered by most as fair and level-headed leader, discussions of the Separatists or the Clone Wars are known to bring out an ire in him.
An injury received from an explosion while serving on the frigate Prudence during the Clone Wars damaged his eyesight, which was corrected by the installation of a cybernetic visor implant.
Important Assets:
The Spirit of Jyvus, a c90 Challenger-Class retrofit of a Republic era Consular-Class Corvette (currently property of the Imperial Auxiliary) and her compliment of approximately 60 Imperial Auxiliary crewmen. Assorted officer's gear from DPDF, Republic Auxiliary, and Imperial Auxiliary service. A Republic-Issue cybernetic visor implant, which also provides macrobinocular vision.

Spirit of Jyvus
Other: Just noting that Grae's backstory includes some reinterpretations of how planetary defense forces worked, and the introduction of the DPDF as a (now disbanded) faction as well as the Republic and Imperial Auxiliaries. Also, the c90 retrofit as a recon variant of the Republic c70s was created for Grae.
